The recent history of Jacob & Co. is arguably more interesting than their recent watches. With the brand’s founder Jacob Arabov in jail, the brand’s relevancy in the luxury market has more or less plummeted to irrelevancy. Especially in times like these when style, grace, and value are more important than showiness, [...]

Women’s Jewelry Association’s (WJA) Women in the Know Conference (WITK), scheduled for Friday, March 12, 2010 at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York City, will feature as its headliner Ivanka Trump, jewelry entrepreneur, social and style icon, businesswoman, best-selling author, international TV personality and daughter of Donald and Ivana Trump.
A summa cum laude graduate from the Wharton School of Finance at the University of Pennsylvania, Ms. Trump is the executive vice president of Development & Acquisitions within the Trump Organization and a co-founder of the Trump Hotel Collection. She undertook her first independent project outside of the Trump Organization in 2007 – the launch of Ivanka Trump Fine Jewelry on Madison Avenue in New York City. A luxury diamond jewelry line developed in partnership with Dynamic Diamond, the collection features timeless and elegant gold and platinum jewelry designs that offer a modern interpretation of the best jewelry classics from the 20s to the 60s, now available at her boutique and also offered at wholesale to select retailers internationally.
The inspiration behind Ivanka’s new venture came from her mother Ivana’s collection of diamonds and gems, as well as from pieces her father gave her through the years. With her design philosophy, “to inspire elegance among the women of a new generation,” Ivanka’s goal is to design important pieces with a youthful, refreshed elegance that fits perfectly into the lives of today’s intelligent, self-assured, social women.

Taking time off from expanding their rainbow nation of children, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have taken to designing pieces of jewelry.
The celebrity duo have designed “The Protector” collection featuring a snake with Asprey, to benefit children of conflict. The collection is set to go on sale later this week, according to sources.
Prices start at $525 for a silver baby spoon with a curving, serpent-shaped handle, and all net proceeds from sales will go to Education Partnership for Children of Conflict, which was cofounded by Jolie in 2006. The charity raises awareness and funds to educate child victims of war, conflict and natural disasters.
Jolie was quoted as saying, “These are the children who most need a safe place to learn, a place to heal, a place to learn reconciliation, a place to build a better future and a place – to just be children. Yet the education for these children is often forgotten. Tens of millions of children and adolescents in conflict are not in school.”
Jolie has also attributed the serpent theme to a ring she was given in the shape of a snake, when she was pregnant with Shiloh. She’s since considered the serpent a talisman and protector of her family.
When does a good thing become too much of a good thing?
A recent episode of Dancing with the Stars provides a clue.
Carrie Ann Inaba appeared on the show wearing a diamond and platinum bracelet, ring and diamond and platinum drop earrings, all by Neil Lane.
If she had stopped there things would have been fine. The spectacular diamond ring spanned one and a half fingers. On the other arm was the Art Deco-inspired diamond and platinum bracelet at a cool 30 carats and $150,000. And framing Inaba’s pretty smile were triple teardrop earrings, set with 6 briolette diamonds totalling 15 carats and $75,000.
For reasons known only to Inaba, or her stylist, a large pearl brooch of unknown origin was also pinned to her shimmery white dress and a necklace draped down to her décolletage.

Jewelry designer Samir Bhansali, who was born in Mumbai, ushers this concept into contemporary life while paying homage to his rich heritage. “La Reina,” an assemblage of Art Deco elements fashioned from La Reina’s trademark enormous-but-light, laser-cut diamonds, mixes ancient techniques with innovation. The result is simply pure artistry meets incredible craftsmanship.
